From the Sublime to the.... No, no, a thousand times no.
The locale was Berkshire, the event a charity polo match. The dress, a teal print shirtwaist with a mandarin-style collar, long sleeves, and self belt. The shoes, very high Stuart Weitzman's camel sledges, looked to add at least four inches to her height.
No offense to the designer (Hampshire-based Libelula designer Sophie Cranston). In another setting, and properly styled, this dress might have looked okay, even awesome. But at a sporting event, even one where Kate was presenting the trophy, this dress is just wrong on so many levels. It doesn't fit, it doesn't flatter, it doesn't seem right for the occasion or the wearer. I don't know what to say. I can't even take this into Photoshop and turn it into something more suitable and cute. It's as if, after last night's triumph in teal, Kate decided to thumb it to all of us and say "I can look bad in teal, too." The more I look at this the more I dislike her in it. It's aging, it's dull, it's uninspired, it just looks old and tired on her. It's Little House on the Prairie meets Amish housewife, especially in the shots at the Daily Mail, of her chasing after her husband.

In addition, it must be said that Kate's legs rival Janko Tipsarevic's (google "Tipsarevic thighs" if you don't know what I'm talking about!) in their muscularity, and while I'm all for physical fitness, maybe she could eat a sandwich or two so there wasn't quite so much ropiness when she runs. (And now I'm going to get a little catty -- who runs like that? Straight up and down?)

What do you think? (image courtesy Daily Mail)
